Adjusting

Since I have been back from my trip things around here have changed. When we moved up here to Colorado, Brandon was off work for 3.5 weeks. Then on Aug. 1st he started his new job. He was in training for 2 weeks, so he was working out of KB’s main office working Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. Things were all good. Well, since I got back from my 4 day trip in Vegas, reality has hit. Hard. Brandon got assigned to the Community he will be selling at. The Community is Meriden Village in Parker, CO. He is really excited about the community, houses are priced good, nice floor plans,  it’s a good location, and it’s only about 20 minutes from our house. Not bad….except the hours. The sales office is open from 10am-7pm. So he is gone from 9am-7:30pm Wed-Sun. Definitely not ideal to be alone with the kids 10.5 hours, 5 days a week. Please don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to come off as ungrateful. I am SO grateful that my husband has a job, that it provides the family with what we need, and most importantly that it allows me to stay at home and raise my children, but it’s hard right now. Autumn is usually going to bed when Brandon is getting home and Owen only has about 30 minutes of Daddy time each night. Not ideal. I am trying to remain focused and to realize this is just a ‘season’ in life right now, but its tough. Its been a tough adjustment for me and even harder on the kids because they adore and cherish their Daddy Time which is very sparse right now. The days are long and let’s face it, by 5 the kids are done with me and I am done with them. It’s just how it goes. So needless to say, we are adjusting to our new life.

On top of the new schedule adjustment, I am also finally starting to feel a bit homesick. Again, please don’t get me wrong, I love Colorado and in no way regret moving up here, but the emotions from the move are finally starting to sink in as I knew they would eventually. The move happened so fast and we were so busy that I had no emotions at the time so I am making up for that big time. I miss My Family, My Friends, My Church, My Familiarity.  I know God had his hand in this move, as He made it abundantly clear this is what He wanted us to do, but I have so many questions racing in my head. Did He really want us to have less family time? I am pretty certain the reason for this adjustment or struggle period is nothing more than the fact He needs us/wants us to rely on Him more. We are uncomfortable and I believe that is when we as humans rely on God more. God didn’t intend for us to be comfortable. He wants us to press into Him and meditate on His word more and more each day. That is when out relationship with him deepens and grows. Well, all I can say is that I/we are definitely trying.

Lastly, I think Owen and I are very much missing having friends. I miss my friends dearly as I know Owen is also since he goes up to every kid he sees at the park, introduces himself and then asks them if they’ll be his friend. Lol. I think once Owen starts pre-school next week it will help us both out a lot. Hopefully I can connect with some of the Mom’s and I am confident Owen will make friends in no time with his outgoing personality. In the end, it’s just going to take some time. How long is the unknown part, but I am 100% confident that God will get us through this ‘adjustment’ period as long as we press into him, constantly seeking his wisdom and guidance.

Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

So as this week was a real struggle for us as a family, I really tried to keep the kids and I as busy as possible to make the time go by a bit faster. Here is a look at our week…

A Trip to Daddy’s New Work:

One morning we took a trip to Brandon’s new Sales Office to check out the model homes and see where Daddy is working. He is selling Paired home (Two Houses that share one wall). They are really nice and they have great floor plans. Excited for Brandon’s new adventure in his new job. Best of luck Babe.

Here is Brandon’s new sales office/model home. Pretty, right? Each home also has it’s own attached 2 car garage in the back of the house. I think they should sell rather well.

The kids had a blast walking through the model homes. As did I, made me want to re-decorate my house all over again :)

After walking through the models, I took the kids right up the street to the awesome park in the neighborhood Brandon is selling in. They had a blast, I believe it was their favorite park we have been to here in Colorado.

A Trip to the Zoo:

Last time we went to the zoo, a couple weeks ago, we decide to buy an annual pass since the kids love going. Since the weather has been in the low 80’s all week (hallelujah) I decided it was the perfect time to take a trip to the zoo. I have to be honest, I was a bit nervous driving there all by myself since you have to drive through crazy downtown Denver, but we made it there just fine, minus the 3 u-turns I had to make on the drive home. Lol. It happens. Any who, we really enjoyed our morning at the zoo.

I even had my very own personal Tour Guide. Owen was awesome and directed us everywhere we needed to go. Who knew a 4 year old could navigate and read a map so well. Honestly, he was a stud at it! The kid never seizes to amaze me.

A Trip to Civic Green Park:

On one of the hotter afternoons (high 80’s), we took a trip to Civic Green Park in Highlands Ranch. We have been their once before. It has a huge park, two different fountains, and a wadding creek and its all free. The kids had a blast.

A Trip to GG & Papa Nick’s House:

Saturday the kids and I drove up to Aurora (about 30 minutes away) to visit GG & Papa Nick (Brandon’s Grandparents). It was great to spend some quality time with them. They even treated us to McDonalds for lunch and play time and then we went back to their house for some homemade brownies and milk before heading home. Such a fun morning.

A Trip to the Pool:

Sunday after naps I took the kids to the pool. Mimi gave us the key to her community pool so we are definitely taking advantage of that luxury. Even better that we ALWAYS have the entire pool to ourselves. I was a bit nervous since this was my first time ever taking them both swimming with no extra hands to help me, but to my surprise it went flawlessly. It helps that Owen is so independent and self sufficient in the pool. I did make him keep his floaties on the entire time since I couldn’t be right by his side to avoid any emergencies. He wasn’t thrilled about it, but there were no resisting tantrums so I was happy. They had a blast and it wore off quite a bit of their never ending energy.

Ready for a swim.

And I will end with a few miscellaneous pictures from the week.

Owen helped me shuck some corn on the cob. Best comment while shucking was, “Mommy, why do we have to shuck this stuff, Can’t you just buy it in a can?” He seriously Cracks me up!

The kids made a ‘Library’ out of the stairs. Their new favorite thing to do. Drives me a bit crazy because there are constantly books all over the house. O’ well, keeps them occupied.

And my favorite pic of the week is Owen and I’s “Peace Out” picture. Hahaha. He loves taking Silly pictures on my cell phone and he wanted to take a ‘peace out picture’. Didn’t really know what that was but after about a dozen tries, we apparently got it right. This is what he was going after. Hilarious!

Happy Monday Everyone!
