Owen’s 1st Fishing Trip & His New Best Friends

Yesterday was a fun filled day for Owen. He got to go on a special trip with Nana and Pampo to go Fishing for the very time. If you know my Dad you know he is an avid Fisher. He goes fishing at least every other week, rain or shine, hot or cold. Well, since Fishing always seemed to gross my sister and I out when we were kids, my Dad is determined to get Owen into it. Mission accomplished, he LOVED it! They took him to a place about 5 miles outside of Albuquerque called Shady Lakes. It is a small family owned lake where you are basically guaranteed to catch a fish.  Not much of a challenge for my Fisherman Dad, but it was the perfect starting point for Owen. My parents said Owen had a blast and was a pro at reeling in his line. He had his very own Spiderman Fishing pole and successfully caught 2 fish with it. He came home and told me he caught two 12 inch trout. He was so proud of himself and had so much fun on his special trip with Nana and Pampo. They won his heart over even more when they took him to McDonalds afterward for dinner. He ate his entire Happy Meal and was even treated to a Hot Fudge Sundae for dessert. He was one spoiled little boy yesterday and slept extra well last night. Well, of course, my Mom’s camera battery died right after arriving to the lake so we only have before and after pictures of his fishing trip. So sorry. I guess he will have to go fishing with them again for some action shots of him fishing.

Here he is on the drive to the lake. I’ll explain the giant snake around his neck in a second.

Nana & Owen

Nana, Owen & a Fish. My Mom has become quite the fisherwomen herself over the past couple years.

Owen, Pampo and their Fish. So cute. I hope Owen becomes my Dad’s favorite Fishing Buddy.

Okay, now onto explain that giant snake in the picture above. Brandon had a sales meeting for work at the zoo a couple days ago. After their meeting they were split into teams and had to go on a scavenger hunt. Well, of course my husbands team won, how could they lose with Brandon on their team? Anyway, they were awarded with giant stuffed snakes. Fitting, I guess, since they were at the zoo. Brandon got a shiny blue snake that he gave to Autumn and a black and white stripped snake that he gave to Owen. Owen has become obsessed with these stuffed snakes and Autumn could care less about them. Owen named them Gil and Molly, which are the names of two characters in his favorite cartoon The Bubble Guppies. He is so funny with these darn snakes and has become inseparable with them. He literally has to take them everywhere and they have to do everything with him, hints why Gil was around his neck on the drive to his fishing trip. Here are a couple pics of Owen, Molly and Gil. Lol. I am sure there will be more of these three in the future.

Owen talks to them as if they are real live people. He says, “I Love you Gil and Molly, you guys are my Best Friends.” Cracks Brandon and I up.

He pets them….

and even reads to them!

And these are just for fun because a blog is never complete with out a picture of my little baby doll. What a stinker!

My New Sewing Endeavor

Well, I decided since I conquered my curtain making that it was time to try sewing something else. I am still in the process of completing curtains for our Master Bedroom, but in the mean time I wanted to try something new. Has anyone ever heard of Pillowcase Dresses? There are many different types of pillowcase dresses, some are very simple and some are much more elaborate. Anyway, a pillowcase dress is basically an “A Line” dress with ribbon that ties on the shoulder. I don’t work well off of patterns so I pulled up a few dresses I liked on the internet and decided I would give it a try. Since we are going to a Colorado Rockies game for the 4th of July I decided to get some Rockies fabric and make Autumn a little dress to wear to her first baseball game.

Here is my final product! It’s a little big on her now but she has 2 months to grow into it or I may need to take it in a little. Not too bad for no pattern and my first attempt at making a dress. Autumn looks so stinking adorable in it. Well, anyone who knows me, knows I like a good challenge every now and again. We got invited to my cousins daughters birthday parties, Alicia who is turning 3 and Marisa who is turning 1. The party was on Saturday. I decided at 7 pm on Wednesday night that it would be cute to make them matching dresses with matching bows for their Birthdays. Well after two nights of sewing until about midnight, I finished. These ones came out so much better than my first one.

The three bows clipped on the sides of the dress are not attached to the dress. I clipped them on the side as three different hair bow options for each dress.

They are actually so much fun to make and I am becoming obsessed with sewing now. They are so inexpensive to make and now that I know what I am doing each dress only takes me about 2 hours from start to finish to make. I am thinking about selling them, since Autumn and my niece can only have so many dresses. I haven’t set up a website for them quite yet, but if you or anyone you know are interested in buying one please let me know. Friends and Family members will get a discount from normal pricing.

Easter 2011

Warning: This is a really really long post.

Matthew 28: 5-10

The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

He has risen, He has Risen Indeed! Hallelujah. Happy Easter to all. I hope you all enjoyed this Easter holiday as much as we did. I have to say though, I am quite exhausted from the whole weekend. I even took a nap today which is not like me at all. Saturday night Brandon and I’s very good friend Gavin came over for dinner and to stay the night with us since we were all going to church early Sunday morning. We ordered some pizza and colored Easter Eggs with Owen. Very fun might I add. Owen loved seeing the eggs change different colors and was even more excited when we let him put Veggie Tale stickers all over the eggs. After the kids went to sleep, Brandon and Gavin slipped back into childhood mode and ate junk food and played video games while I was busy in the kitchen preparing Brunch for Easter day. We all went to bed about 11 which was later than anticipated since we had to be up early the next morning for church.

Easter morning, we headed to church about 7:20am since church seems to fill up really quickly on Easter day. We met my parents, my sister and my niece there. After church we all headed back to our house for an Easter brunch potluck. My ‘O my was it delicious! After brunch the kids took a nap and Nana and Pampo went off to visit Great Great and take her some left over food. After naps we all met back at our house so Owen could do an Easter Egg Hunt. He had so much fun. We are gonna have to hide the eggs a little harder next year cause he found them all so quickly. The kid was definitely on a mission! After the egg hunt we all kind of laid around and relaxed while the kids were busy playing with all their new Easter goodies. We ended the day with a delicious dinner my sister and I threw together at the last minute, Meatloaf, Roasted Red Potatoes, Green Beans and of course Deviled Eggs. Once everyone left and the kids were in bed, Brandon and I melted into the couch and I quickly fell asleep. Here are a ton of pictures from our day…

The left is Owen and Gavin writing their letters. And on the right is Autumn playing with her new pink airplane!
