Owen’s 1st Day of Pre-K!

Today was an exciting day for Owen. It was Meet & Greet Day at his new school. This was a day for the kids to come in, meet their teacher, meet their fellow classmates, check out the school, and drop off their school supplies for the year. Owen has been dying to start school so he was very eager to get dressed and out the door this morning. Luckily Brandon was off today so he got to come along too!

Owen will be attending Foothills Christian Pre-School & Kindergarten at Foothills Bible Church. We fell in love with the school immediately because it felt so much like the pre-school he went to last year in New Mexico. He is in the Pre-Kindergarten Class that will meet on Tuesday & Thursday from 9:00am to Noon. We could have put him in 3 mornings a week, but I am just not ready to give up my child more than 2 mornings a week, he’ll have the rest of his life to go to school so I am going to hold onto him as long as I can. Owen is in a class with 12 kids, 6 Boys & 6 Girls, and he has a teacher and a teachers aid. His teacher is Mrs. Anderson and the teachers aid is Miss. Laura. I am so excited for school this year since it will be a great way for Owen to get out of the house, have a little time away from his sister, meet some new friends and most importantly get him fully ready for Kindergarten next year. OMG, it’s crazy just saying that!?! Luckily Kindergarten in Colorado is only half days so I wont have to be without him all day!

Here are some fun pictures from the morning…

I can’t believe how grown up this kid is. Breaks my heart a little.

I know it was all about Owen this morning, but Autumn was starting to feel a bit left out so we snapped a special picture of her too…

As I am sure you can tell, Owen had no 1st day nerves and was super excited and confident about going to school. I am so proud of my sweet boy and how social and friendly he was with all the new people he met this morning. He is growing up so fast and I could not possibly be more proud of this sweet child God has given to us.

A new attitude & outlook…

So after my first really rough week of adjusting to Brandon’s new work schedule I can say things are much better around here. I truly think I was in a funk. I was trying to adjust to our new life here in Colorado, and was extremely missing my friends and family back in New Mexico. Do you blame me, those people are awesome! But after that first week with Brandon’s new work schedule and a massive reality slap in the face, week two was much much better. Why? I am honestly not too sure, but it was easier than the week before and for that I am so thankful. I honestly think my attitude and my outlook changed and most importantly my heart changed. In the grand scheme of things I honestly have it really good. What do I honestly have to be ‘down’ about? I have an amazing family (mine & my in-laws), an amazing husband, amazing children that I am able to spend every single day with, a roof over my head, food in my belly, and a God who loves me unconditionally despite my many many flaws. I am SO SO BLESSED and I think it just took a fresh outlook and some serious time in God’s word for me to pull out of my funk.

So with all that said (yes, I ramble), I will get onto the stuff I know the grandparents who are missing our kiddos really want….pictures. This week was mainly spent outdoors soaking up what is left of summer because I know it is soon going to come to an end. I am trying to save indoor activities for late fall and winter when I know we are going to be forced to be inside. Any who, the weather was in the high 80’s and low 90’s this past week so it was perfect to be outside soaking up the sun! Here are some fun pics from the week.

I think we spent about 4 days having lunch at the park. No mess at home, kids can run around while eating, and they burn off energy. Perfect, perfect, perfect!

One afternoon we got a little rain which was unexpected so to keep the kids entertained we did some painting…

Owen titled his painting ‘a sunny day’. The kid is hysterical. I have no clue where he came up with that name. Lol

We made another trip to the grocery store which meant another pony ride…

They can’t get enough of this awesome pony ride for a PENNY!

Or the free car ride they get from Mommy. This thing is really hard to steer give me some credit!

Saturday night we had some really good friends over for a game night. The kids were pretty bummed when everyone showed up at 7:45pm and they had to go to bed while we had all the fun, but Mommies and Daddies deserve to have fun too! We invited two of Brandon’s best friends over and their fiancĂ©/girlfriend. It was a blast! We had some great company, awesome snack food and some really good laughs. I am so thankful for the friends we have here!

As always, I spent all this time taking pictures before everyone arrived and completely forgot to pull out the camera when all the fun was going on! Ugh, I hate when I do that!

Brandon made his amazing homemade salsa and I made my famous chewy chocolate chip cookies for the occasion!

The kids were wired waiting for our guests to arrive. There was dancing…

and there was even a wrestling match. I love these two they are too funny!

Sunday was a super busy day. The kids and I went to church in the morning. Mimi even came to check out our new church. We love it. Then we took Mimi to go see Brandon’s new sales office/model homes followed by a trip to the park in the community Brandon works in. We had a picnic lunch at the park, Came home, took naps, and then headed to the pool for some fun. It was busy, busy, busy but well worth it! Such a fun Sunday Fun day with Mimi. I am so blessed with a WONDERFUL Mother-In-Law.

Some big news this trip to the pool, Autumn can now swim on her own with her floaties on. She loves the independence of me not having to hold her the entire time and she thinks she is so cool. I am so proud of this little peanut!!!!

Owen had a super fun water fight with his squirter toys.

The best water fights ALWAYS involve Mimi. So much fun!

Today was one of Brandon’s days off so this morning consisted of a few errands and then some fun in the cul de sac. We ran separate errands, I took Autumn and Brandon took Owen. It is so amazing how much easier life is when you only have 1 kid to worry about. It’s also amazing how well behaved they both act when the other one isn’t around.

20120827_101518

The most important errand this morning was getting Brandon a new license plate since his New Mexico registration expires on Aug. 31st. Look like the Passat is officially a Coloradan. Crazy? Mine is waiting until sometime next year because my tags are still good and it’s 4 times the amount it was in New Mexico to register your vehicle in Colorado. Yes as in 4 F-O-U-R times!!!!!! I knew the cost of living was higher up here but geesh!

And that sums up our week in a nut shell. So thankful for a fresh outlook and a new attitude. Bring it on week 3!!!!

Family Day!!!!!!

After my last blog, I decided we needed something a bit more upbeat. As you all know, I've been experiencing some homesickness and loneliness as Brandon is working looonnnggg hours and I haven’t made any stay at home mommy friends yet. Key word is YET, it will happen, just takes time. Well, after Brandon worked 8 (10-12 hour) days in a row, I think it is safe to say we were all in desperate need of some good quality family time! Thanks to my absolutely amazing husband he planned a nice morning of fun family time on Tuesday, and then set up a surprise date night for us. Did I mention I have an amazing husband? Okay, onto our fun filled day…

A Morning in Golden

Tuesday morning we ate breakfast, got dressed, packed up a picnic lunch, and then hit the road. We took a drive up to Golden, Colorado. Brandon hadn’t been there since he was a kid and the kids and I have never been. We have heard great things about the little town and wanted to go check it out for ourselves. Golden is about 30 minutes from our house tucked away in the mountains. It is a beautiful little quiet town with lots to see and do. Brandon and I both agreed that it would be a really cool town to live in because you feel like you are so far away from the city in this little mountain town, but in 30 minutes you can be in downtown Denver. Mountain living with city conveniences and shopping, what could be better? Maybe we will look into Golden when we are ready to buy a house again, who knows? When we arrived we drove around downtown Golden checking out all the cool little shops and sights to see. After that we headed to Clear Creek White Water Park. The kids played on the awesome playground, we went and took a stroll along the creek watching people rafting and tubing down the creek, and then we made our way to the huge open grass area for a picnic lunch. It was a perfect morning together! So thankful for my family!

Such a WONDERFUL morning with my Family!!!!!

Surprise Date Night

I think my husband really picked up on my ‘down’ mood last week and noticed I was in need on some time with not only my family, but my husband too! Since the move and everything we haven’t really had a ton of one on one time like all couples need, especially with kids. After we got home from Golden we put the kids down for a nap. While they were napping Brandon told me I needed to get ready because his Aunt was coming over at 5:30pm to watch the kids so we can go on a date. He is so sweet. He planned our night AND scheduled someone to watch the kids without me knowing. I think this was our first real ‘date night’ in 3 months (give or take). Point being, it was long overdue. I am so grateful for my husband and that he takes the time to put things like this together behind my back to surprise me and make me feel special!

Once his Aunt Bev came over we left and headed to dinner…

20120821_180111

Again, my hubby is so awesome. He took me to a Restaurant called The Rock. They specialize in Wood Fired Pizza and Wood Fired Pizza is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!!! They also have a brewery there where they brew their own beer. Another one of my favorites! For all you New Mexico Peeps, it is very similar to Turtle Mountain Brewing Company which is my favorite restaurant in Rio Rancho. It was so nice sitting on the patio with my hubby eating some fabulous food and drinking some great beer. My hubby knows me so well!

20120821_18370920120821_181159

After dinner we headed right down the street to the AMC to see a movie. We saw the Bourne Legacy. We loved watching the Bourn Trilogy together so it was a great pick. I was a little nervous since Matt Damon wasn’t in this one, but it was a GREAT movie.

20120821_191648

I LOVE my husband. Thanks again babe, you planned one awesome Date Night. Love you and am so grateful to have you! Also a huge thanks to Aunt Bev for coming over and watching the kiddos. They had a BLAST with you! (and for all wondering, we did not plan to match that evening, it just happened that way. lol)

********************************

I will finish with a few miscellaneous pic’s from our week…

The kids and I visit a park a least once a day. The weather has been perfect (low 80’s), its free, it gets us out of the house, and it burns off energy. WIN WIN WIN WIN…

20120820_161403

This park was a great one. We just discovered it the other day and are so happy we found it. Even better its not far from the house!

20120820_15544020120820_154428

And who said a Penny can’t buy you anything nowadays?

20120822_160042

The grocery store by our house has a Horse Ride that only costs 1 Cent! The kids were fabulous on our last trip to the grocery store so I let them ride the pony once we checked out. It was a super long ride, it was only a penny, and now its great motivation for the kids to behave during all our future shopping trips. Yay

Autumn was in desperate need of some tennis shoes, especially since we practically live at the park. Lol. So we took a special trip to Nordstrom Rack (my favorite obsession) to pick her out some new kicks.

20120822_113425

Are these not the cutest shoes you’ve ever seen?!?!?! I love them and she thinks she is soooo cool now that she has shoes like her big bro!

What do you do when you are making a Baby Shower Gift for a baby boy and 1 parent is a Oregon State University Alumni and 1 parent is a University of Oregon Alumni?

Family Day in Golden, Co 001Family Day in Golden, Co 003

You make a Infant Car Seat Cover that is reversible! That way depending on which parent has the baby, they can chose what side to represent when covering the car seat. Genius. All credit is due to my husband for the awesome idea!

And that genius idea, led to this…

Family Day in Golden, Co 005

A split burp cloth. That way whoever is burping the baby can chose what side the baby will puke on. Hahaha.

Go Bears? Go Ducks? Either way this baby is prepared to cheer for one team or the other and that will make 2 very proud parents!!!! Congrats Devin & Veronica, can’t wait to see pictures of your newest addition when he makes his entrance into this world.

That about does it!
