Enjoying the Warm Sun & A Start to Spring Cleaning

The weather here has been a bit bipolar, cold then hot, hot then cold. It just can’t make up its mind. Honestly I am totally okay with it since I can’t really decide if I am ready for spring or if I still want the nice cool crisp air. It’s kind of like the best of both worlds. Here is what I mean, Sunday was Sunny and 60, Monday snowed and the high was 32, Tuesday was 52, and today was nice and Sunny and 57. With that said the warm weather isn’t going to last long since we are supposed to be getting another winter snow storm this weekend with another possible foot of snow. My point in all this is that on the Sunny warm days we have been trying to soak up the Spring-Like weather by spending lots of time outdoors, meaning lots and lots of trips to the park.

Other than that not too much going on over here. I have really been in a spring cleaning mood and deep cleaning everything, Carpets, Showers, Oven’s, Baseboards, Air Vents. Most of these projects I have been wanting to do for awhile now (like since we moved into this house) but am just now getting around to them. If you know me at all, you know I am a bit of a ‘clean freak’ and this house was not up to my clean standards when we moved in. It was in no way filthy, but there were things that needed some work, like the grout in our showers and the oven. Thanks to the lovely Pinterest I am learning to clean ‘chemical free’ and I have to say I am LOVING it. My main cleaning products now consist of Baking Soda, Vinegar, and Dawn Soap. The ‘Chemical Free’ Oven cleaner was one of my favorites and it worked great!

I forgot to take a before picture of the oven :( but trust me when I say it was pretty darn dirty on the bottom and sides. Not really sure what the people before did when they cooked, but I can assure you their food spilled over quite a bit. Here is what I did. Sprinkle a very generous amount of Baking Soda on the bottom of the oven, then get a water bottle with a 50/50 mixture of Dawn Soap and Vinegar and spray another very generous amount on top of the baking soda. It will foam up nicely. Leave it alone for 4-6 hours (or overnight) and then get to scrubbing with a SOS pad. It’s not easy by any means, I had to put a lot of elbow grease into it, but in the end it was all worth it AND I didn’t have to use a single weird chemical that I can’t pronounce. I’m a nerd I know, but a nice clean oven makes me so happy :)
