Bye Bye Sickness!!!!!

Hooray!!!!! I can officially say the Burgess Family has finally gotten rid of the sickness that has been going around this house for weeks! Boy o boy was that rough. I hope this means with spring right around the corner we will be in the clear for awhile. Now, with all that said, we have been having some fun now that we are all healthy again.

Wednesday morning the kids and I had our good friends Jess, Abby and Isaac over for a play day. We usually get together with them once a week, but with all our sickness’s going around we haven’t seen them in weeks! Okay, so think back to a couple weeks ago when I mentioned in a blog post that Autumn and I had made some Kooky Clay while Owen was at school. Well, we FINALLY got around to painting all the figurines we made. The kids seemed to really enjoy themselves.

After painting the kids did a little playing with beads and pipe cleaners. They each made up their own thing to do with them.

It was a very very successful play day. All four kids got along great and there was not one single meltdown. Not one! Between 4 kids I have to say that is amazing! Owen and Abby spent a lot of time upstairs playing in Owen’s room together while Isaac & Autumn stayed at the bottom of the stairs holding the gate yelling for their older siblings. Haha. It was pretty funny! At the end of the play day Abby asked Owen if she could have a hug goodbye. He gave her a hug and she said, “Bye Owen. I love you so so so so much.” After that she grabbed his face with both hands and gave him a huge kiss on the lips. Priceless! After that Owen looked at her and said, “I love you too Abby.” These two are too adorable and each others longest friends. I am so thankful for amazing friends!

So after play day the kids had lunch and went down for their afternoon naps. My sister came over right once I laid them down because Wednesday is my new day to watch Abigail. She dropped her off and Abi and I had some fun one on one time while my kids were napping. She was being so silly and I really cherished that special time between the two of us. When my kids got up I decided to try and get a cute picture of the three cousins. Let’s just say it didn’t go very well. Haha

I lost them again. Haha.

As for Daddy’s days off this week the kids really had some one on one fun with Daddy. Guess they were trying to make up for lost time since they were both sick the last two weeks.

And after Sister went to bed, Daddy and Owen busted out his sweet Hot Wheels Track that shoots cars through rings of fire! Of course, Owen was very specific which cars were able to go on the track. He is so particular!

Brandon has been receiving lots of Birthday packages in the mail from all the family we were supposed to see up in Colorado for his “Surprise” 30th Birthday Party. Thank you so much everyone for all the very generous Gifts you have been sending. Daddy has had some very good helpers opening up his packages…

Well, that about sums up our week. Just so thankful we are all finally recovered, happy and healthy! Looking forward to a relaxing weekend and finally being able to go back to church after missing two weeks in a row!!!

The Sickness Continues

Well, I would love to check in with my awesome blog followers to tell you my house is all recovered and the sickness is gone, but unfortunately I can not do that. Autumn seemed to be back to her normal self on Saturday and Sunday but Sunday night was a totally different story. She was up on and off all night with another high fever (103.6), cough and just plain restless. I called the doctor Monday morning and they wanted me to bring her back in to make sure the infection hadn’t settled in her lungs causing her to now have pneumonia. After ANOTHER trip to the doctor we had completely baffled them. Lungs sounded good (which meant no pneumonia, thank God), oxygen was good, ears were clearing up from the infection. Her doctor really couldn’t understand what was going on. His only guess was that she has caught, yet again, another virus that was causing the high fever. Needless to say Autumn was not happy to be back at the doctors and was losing it every time they even came close to her, so her doctor didn’t want to push our luck with any further tests. He sent us home and told us to continue the nebulizers and Tylenol. He said if she wasn’t better by Wednesday to bring her back in and they would have to run blood work and a urine catheter to see what was going on.

With all that said, we did have a better night last night. Not great, but better, and after 3 weeks of this sickness going around our house, I’ll take better! Her temp is way down today which is a great sign and she seems less whiny so far (better not jinx it). So needless to say, I’m exhausted, she is exhausted, Daddy is exhausted, and Owen is wired from being cooped up in the house for going on 3 weeks. I have to admit I am also sick of being stuck in this house. So we had to get creative to keep these kids, and us, from going nuts. So what did Daddy do….he built a Fort of course. And not just any fort, a fort that takes up the entire dinning room. He scored some major cool points with the kids for this one. Way to go Dad!!!!

Here you have it! This went up last Friday and is still up. Why? Well, because the kids live in this thing. They have not played in the playroom in 5 days. They alternate bringing certain toys/books in here and stay in there all day. They love it. It’s like their own little getaway. Good thing we don’t have any dinner parties coming up any time soon. Haha.

He even got to talk to his Mimi from inside his fort. I’m telling you we spend most of our day in this thing. Secretly I am really starting to love this thing too. Shhh, don’t tell anyone. P.s. don’t judge my looks, I am severely  sleep deprived and exhausted.

And other than playing in the fort, there has been a lot of snuggle time going around this house…

And one little story to leave you with…

Yesterday I was desperately trying to get some laundry folded since it was piling up and taking over my house. Of course Autumn was none too pleased with me not holding her, so she was standing right by me crying her little eyes out trying to get me to pick her up. Just fyi, Owen is pretty sick of hearing Autumn cry and whine since she has been sick forever. Owen goes up to Autumn and says the following….”Autumn, I will sit on the floor and hold you if you will PLEASE just STOP CRYING!” Haha. I’m glad I’m not the only one it is wearing on. Poor girl. Hope she is finally on the mend!

Our Trip to Colorado was….

Cancelled!

What a total bummer that was. Here is a little recap for those of you who have no clue what has been going on in the burgess household. Long story so beware. Back track with me a bit to my last post. You remember the one where Owen had croup and the doctor said Autumn would most likely get it, yes that one. Ok. Well my pediatrician was in fact correct.

Here comes the long story. Tuesday morning. Woke up, both kids doing good. Owen got to go to school and Autumn and I were off to run some last minute errands for our trip to Colorado. For those who did not already know, we were planning to go to Colorado to visit family, celebrate Brandon’s 30th Birthday (which we had planned a surprise Birthday party for) and most importantly to meet our newest little niece Bailey. Anyway, my point was Tuesday morning was going great. Picked Owen back up from school and headed home to get the kids down for naps and I was off to pack.

By time naps were over I was so proud of myself because I had managed to pack for all 4 of us. I got the kids up and Autumn was on fire and coughing like a seal. Ugh. At that point I knew it was not going to be good. I called my sister-in-law and we both agreed that it was probably not a good idea to have my two sick kids around her new 3 week old baby. After talking with her Brandon and I decided it would be best to cancel our trip. Not only would we not have been able to meet our niece it would have been miserable traveling with a sick kid. At that point I had to come clean to Brandon and tell him all about the big 30th Surprise Birthday Party we have been planning for the past two months. Total Bummer. But we had to do what was best for the family. So needless to say we spent Tuesday night Un-Packing the bags I had packed earlier that day and calling a list of people to tell them there would be no party anymore.

A bit depressing I have to admit. Lol. After unpacking Brandon and I went downstairs to watch a movie and try and relax. Autumn was up on and off all night coughing, crying, running a fever, and the list goes on. It was a rough night and no one except Owen got any sleep.

Here is Autumn being passed back and forth between Brandon and I during the movie we were trying to watch. Poor kid could not breath because she was so congested and she kept having these huge coughing attacks.

So Wednesday Autumn continued to go downhill big time.

She kept having more and more coughing attacks that were causing her to throw up because she was choking and gagging. By about 2pm, I started to notice she was breathing a bit strange. I tried a nebulizer treatment and it didn’t seem to do much so I decided to call the pediatrician. He recommended we bring her in. So I dropped Owen off to my Mom and Brandon got off work early to meet me at the doctors office. Then all the fun started.

They checked her oxygen and it was only at 82 which is very low. The doctor examined her and found she had a touch of the croup that Owen had, RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) and a Double Ear infection to top it off. Poor kid I know. I can not even imagine how much pain and discomfort she was in. They brought in a big oxygen tank and started her on this breathing treatment of oxygen mixed with albuterol and some other medicine I cant remember.

 

That was a nightmare because by this point Autumn was losing it big time. She cried, kicked and screamed until she was purple through the entire 20 min treatment. I also cried with her. I was super sleep deprived and it was so hard to watch her go through it. After that the doctor came in and gave her a steroid shot to help with the wheezing from the croup. Then they tested her oxygen again and it was back up to 90. Still not great but much better than 82. He let us go home but said we needed to give her Nebulizer treatments every 2 hours through the night and to bring her back in at 9 the next morning to recheck her oxygen levels. He said if she was 90 or below that they would have to admit her to the hospital. Well, as you can guess I did not get a wink of sleep that night. Between breathing treatments every 2 hours and watching her every breath I was a nervous and emotional wreck.

Thursday morning, we got Owen off to school and then headed to take Autumn back in to test her oxygen levels. By this point she was terrified of being in the doctors office.

Every time someone walked into the room she would cling onto her Daddy and start sobbing. They tested her and her oxygen was at 92. Still not great but much better than the day before. My doctor decided it would probably be too traumatizing to make her go through the hospital stuff so he decided to let us take her home under the promise that we would continue to keep up the breathing treatments, steamy vapor baths, Tylenol, lots of fluids and monitor her breathing regularly.

 

It was a whirlwind of a week but I am so thankful to report that Autumn is on the mend. She still doesn’t have much of a voice, a few coughing attacks each day and still pretty clingy but she is breathing good and finally sleeping and eating again. Praise God!!! I did forget to mention that this whole time Autumn was sick so were Brandon and I which made things that much harder. O yeah, and we had no food what so ever in our house since we had planned to be gone this weekend. Ugh. It has been rough. Very rough. But just like the saying goes, God will not give us more than we are capable of handling, and boy was that the truth. We are so blessed to have so many family and friends that were praying for us and just as God has promised, he gave us the strength to make it through.

So here we are Saturday and we are ALL on the mend to recovery from a very very very nasty virus that got the best of us. And I think we are all even caught back up on all the sleep we had lost out on. Almost felt like we were parents of a newborn all over again! Thanks to you all for all the prayers and to my awesome parents for bringing us over some spaghetti! Love you all so much. As for Colorado, we are planning to go the first weekend in March now Health permitting. Keep your fingers crossed because we are all dying to meet our sweet little nice Bailey.
