Owen’s 1st Dentist Appointment, Santa Fe & More Baking…

Praise the Lord, the family is finally feeling better. Brandon and Autumn were lucky enough to stay sickness free but poor Owen got hit pretty hard with it and I got a little taste of it too. By Thursday morning, Owen was back to his regular old self, meaning being crazy and back to his endless amount of energy. Unfortunately, I started feeling kind of yucky on Tuesday night. By Wednesday I was achy and had a little fever. Thursday I felt so so but thankfully by Friday I was all better. So glad it was short cause I was pretty miserable for 2 days. We are so thankful to all be happy, healthy and back to the norm.

Now onto the fun stuff. Thursday was a very exciting day for little Owen, he had his very 1st dentist appointment. We were a little worried, as I am sure most parents are, because we had no clue how he would do. We talked it up a lot the two weeks prior to his appointment and reassured him that the dentist was so much fun and that he would be such a big boy. Anytime we tell him he will be a big boy it is usually a huge motivator for him. I am happy to say, he did AWESOME. He honestly loved it and was so excited to lay down in the big dentist chair. They didn’t do too much, just a polish, flossed and checked for cavities. They said his teeth looked great and not a single cavity to report. Yay! Brandon actually sold a house to the Dentist Owen saw so it was nice to know him prior to going. The office is right across the street from our house, if the weather was nice we could’ve walked, so nice and so convenient. Owen's 1st Dentist Appt 001

The office is brand new and really nice. They have a little movie room for the kids to wait in. Owen was so excited when he walked in to see they were playing Finding Nemo.

Here is Owen with his new dentist Dr. Blair. Not only do they have a little movie theater in the waiting room, each chair has its own flat screen where he got to watch another movie.

And here is the Big Boy with a new pearly white smile. I am so proud of him, he wasn’t even a little scared! Such a brave little boy I have.

Thursday afternoon we headed up to Santa Fe after the kids naps. Brandon has to renew his Real Estate License every 3 years which happens to fall in February. He had to complete a whole bunch of classes, mostly online, and then he has to go up to Santa Fe to get it signed off that he completed all the required classes. We decided to drive up, get his papers signed and notarized, walk around the plaza, eat dinner and then head back home. The drive up was very nice and we arrived around 3:30pm. We got Brandon’s business taken care of and then headed to the plaza. Well, it started to get extremely windy and cold and I really was not feeling very well to begin with. We walked around a little bit but decided it was too windy and we needed to eat and head home. We couldn’t find a restaurant that really sounded too good since my tummy wasn’t feeling good so we settled for good ole Dion’s, ate and headed back home. The day wasn’t exactly what we had planned and hoped for, but it was still nice to go for a drive and get away from normalcy for a bit.

Warning: if you are tired of seeing Owen cooking  stop reading now!

Yes, we also did some more baking this week. I guess this is a little out of order since the baking took place on Wednesday night so please forgive me. We were in charge of bringing dessert to small group this week so we decided to make my famous soft Chocolate Chip Cookies. It was Brandon’s idea and boy what an awesome idea it was. Of course my little helper had to join in on the baking. Here he is in action. I know this may get old to some seeing Owen baking for the hundredth time but it melts my heart how serious he is about it and I know it makes the Grandparents happy too!

His faces crack me up. He looks so serious. The last picture he is trying so hard to sift the flour but his poor little hands were just too small.

So tempting not to eat all this cookie dough but we did control ourselves. I forgot to take a pic of the final product, but let me tell you, they were amazing.

Just in case you were wondering what this little girl was up to while Owen and I were making cookies. Yes, eating snacks her specialty. She loves to eat veggie sticks just like her big bro!

Thanks for checking in on our crazy end of our week!

Going Stir Crazy

Due to a sick son we have been forced to stay indoors even though we are having the most amazing weather lately. It has been in the low 60’s, sunny & no wind. Yeah, like I said, amazing! Anyway, Owen has hit a major turn in his sickness and is starting to feel much better. Not good, but better.
 Winter Walk 2011 024
This morning he didn’t have much energy and still wanted to just lay around but by 10ish he was wanting to do more normal every day stuff. His temp has been really low in the 100 range, he ate today and has actually wanted to get off the couch and play. The poor kid is congested beyond belief and can’t breath very well out of his nose, but he is starting to be more like Owen. His nose has been running like a faucet today so his upper lip has become really chapped from wiping it so much. He kept asking me for a band aid today for his owie and I couldn’t figure out for the life of me where he had an owie.
Winter Walk 2011 032
Figured it out. Yes, he was referring to the chapped skin under his nose. He insisted on putting a band aid on it . Once the band aid was on he never complained about it again. Lol. Who knew band aids were the cure for chapped skin. Well, after his nap I couldn’t take being stuck inside one more minute so we packed up the stroller and headed out for a nice long walk around the neighborhood. I think the fresh air did us all some good.

See what I mean? The fresh air is good for everyone after being cooped up inside for three strait days.

Owen loves going for rides in the stroller now that we converted it to a Sit & Stand. He loves standing up behind his little sis! Such a big boy.

Sick Owen

On Friday afternoon, after nap time, Owen woke up with a low fever, about 100.6. Saturday it was really bad, it got up to 104.8 and his nose was super stuffy. So Sunday morning it was back in the 104 range and he was feeling terrible so we decided to take him to the doc. My BFF Kaitlyn was a doll and came to get Autumn so I could have some one on one time with little Owen and so I could take him to the doctor without having to drag Autumn along. Autumn had a blast with the Altman family and loved watching Olivia run around and dance. Thanks again Altman fam for looking after my precious little girl for me, you are such a blessing to me and my family. Anyway, poor Owen basically has a nasty nasty virus. They think it is the same virus that can cause croup so we are carefully evaluating his cough to make sure it doesn’t get barky. So far it is just a really dry cough and he is super congested. His poor throat is on fire since he can’t breath out of his nose and because of all the drainage he is having. He is so miserable and definitely not himself. I consider him to be a “high” energy kind of kid and all he wants to do is lay around and watch movies. This is super concerning since we can usually never get the kid to sit still. He even fell asleep while playing games on the iPad this morning as I was getting ready for the day. He has no appetite and makes a funny face every time he swallows. Needless to say we are on Pj day #3 and we are all simply pooped. Please pray for health in the the Burgess household. I really hope Autumn doesn’t get it next, so far so good with her. Here are some pictures of the past 3 days. Sick Owen Feb. 2011 028

I have got more snuggle time with Owen in the past three days than I have got in the past 6 months. He is constantly coming up to me saying, “Mommy, I wanna hold you.” I am loving all the snuggle time but I hate the circumstances they are under.

And here is little Autumn napping on the other end of the couch. I don’t know why, but the girl loves to cover her face with the blanket. So is too funny.

Owen has no appetite so I decided to give him just some toast for breakfast this morning. I made them in the shape of a heart since its Valentines Day today.

Look how out of it he looks. It got so bad he can barely walk strait when he has to get up to go to the bathroom. His fever has been so high that he is just energy less. It breaks my heart seeing him like this.

And here he is passed out while playing a game on the iPad this morning. This is a first ever. When I went to wake him up he told me, “Mommy I just need to sleep some more.” So sad since he had only been up maybe an hour and a half. Poor kid is sick!!

Valentines Packages

Owen and Autumn got very spoiled this Valentines Day and each received two packages in the mail, 1 from GG & Papa Nick and 1 from their Mimi. Thank you so much, the kids loved their gifts and Owen was so eager to read the cards. His new favorite thing is to read things all by himself. When he opened up his card I asked him if he wanted me to read the card to him and he said, “No thank you Mommy, I read it all myself.” I asked him to read it out loud to me, so he opened it up and said, “Happy Valentines Day Owen.” He is too funny!

Valentines Dinner

This past Friday, Brandon and I decided we were really past due for a date night since we haven’t been on one since our Anniversary back in September. Yeah, your telling me. We decided to go out for a nice dinner to celebrate Valentines Day a few days early. We went to this Italian Restaurant called Trombino’s. Apparently this restaurant has been in Albuquerque since the late 70’s and for some reason I have never been there. Wow, the food was amazing. We will defiantly be going back. After dinner we were debating what to do. We weren’t in the mood for a movie so we decided to celebrate our youth and go Roller Skating. We headed to this old place that I used to go as a child called, Roller Skate City. I think Brandon and I were under the impression that Roller Skating was old fashioned and no one goes anymore, totally not the case. We pulled up to a line of people coming out the front door waiting to get in. Crazy right? We felt so out of place since we didn’t see a single person over the age of 15. Needless to say we turned around and left. Still not in the mood to go to the movies we decided to go rent one and head home to snuggle up in our warm bed and watch a movie in the comfort of our own house. It was so nice to get out and have a nice evening with the Love of my life.   Valentines Dinner 2011 009

Girls Afternoon Out…

Yesterday I had a nice girls afternoon out. My sister, Kaitlyn and I all desperately needed a pedicure so that is exactly what we got. We also decided that since Olivia is 2 now, it would be the perfect time to take her to get her first pedicure with us. She was so very excited! We stopped by Starbucks on the way to get a yummy drink to enjoy during our Pedi's. Olivia was so shocked when we first walked in to see a wall full of nail polish! She was so overwhelmed by all the choices she could have spent all day choosing a color, but after a bit she settled for the most sparkly purple polish she could find. She loved it and I am so happy I got to be a part of her first pampering of a pedicure.
