Owen’s 4th Birthday

Holy Cow! My sweet little Owen turned 4 years old yesterday! We have a Birthday Party planed for this coming Sunday so yesterday wasn’t much of a celebration for Owen since that will be this weekend. It was kind of a bummer that his actual bday fell on a Wednesday because Wednesday’s in the Burgess Household are our busiest and most chaotic day of the week. Brandon has an early morning meeting and goes strait to church after work to help with the youth group so we don’t see him all day. As for the kids and I we wake up eat a quick breakfast, head to the gym for 1.5 hours, come home, do laundry, eat lunch, Abigail comes over and so on and so on. You get my drift, busy busy busy day. I did however make a special effort in trying to make such a crazy day special and all about Owen. The morning went on like normal with the exception of all the special goodies Auntie Kiki brought him when she dropped of Abigail. After nap time I made it a point to make the rest of the day all about Owen. When he woke up my Mom & Dad surprised him (and me) by coming by to say Happy Birthday in person. I let him open all his cards and gifts that out of town family had sent and then made him whatever he requested for dinner. After dinner we had some cake with Nana and then the kids and I headed to Dairy Queen for a special bday treat that his pre-school gave him. It was a fun day despite the normal chaos. Here are some pictures from the day…

The awesome Monkey chair Owen is sitting in was given to him from Auntie Kiki. He LOVES it and already decided he is taking it with him next time he goes fishing. Lol. Owen was so sweet and patient with Autumn, he let her share the spot light and even let her help him open his presents. What a big boy!

He was awesome and read aloud each card all by himself. I never imagined this kid would be full on reading by the time he reached 4! He seriously amazes me!!!

I love how a little bit of money can bring so much joy to a 4 year old. He said, “wow mommy, I have so much money. Now and I can buy everything.” O to be young again!

Owen was ecstatic to open this awesome gift from Aunt Rose. He has been asking for this Spin & Learn Globe for quite awhile now. Him and this globe have been inseparable since the moment he opened it, he even asked if he could take it to bed last night. Thanks Aunt Rose, you made his day!

Autumn got Owen some really cool new soccer gear; a soccer ball, cleats, and some shin guards. What a nice sister. Owen starts soccer May 31st. Can’t wait!

ADORABLE!!!! All ready to go play!

Owen's 4th Birthday 057

This was the BIG present. This is a combo bday gift for Owen and Autumn’s birthdays and was given by Mimi, Nana, Pampo, Mommy and Daddy. What is it? An Inflatable Jumper with a Slide. They were both very bummed it was too windy to set up yesterday. Maybe for his party if the weather hold up! We will see.

Waiting for Mommy to hurry up and make these kids some dinner!

I told Owen he could request anything he wanted for dinner and I would make it for him. What did he choose? Shells ‘n’ Cheese. Seriously?!?! Not sure if I should take that as an insult to my cooking abilities or what. Haha. Well, a promise is a promise so that is what I made.

Owen's 4th Birthday 066Owen's 4th Birthday 064

Here you have it. Shells ‘n’ Cheese with fresh spinach and a side of Clementine's. I have serious guilt when I feed my kids food with tons of “processed” stuff in it so I try and healthily it by adding in some nice greens. Parenthood is survival my friends, you do what you gotta do.

Owen's 4th Birthday 063

Enjoying dinner. All 3 kids ate every last bite. Yay!!!

After dinner we moved right onto dessert minus Pampo and Abigail because they both had to leave :(

Owen's 4th Birthday 069

The cake on the Left my parents brought him (a snickers cake) and the one on the right (the jumbo crab cupcake)my sister brought him. Lucky kid!

Owen's 4th Birthday 067

“……Happy Birthday dear Owen, Happy Birthday to you!”

So after cake, Nana had to head home. I had promised Owen first thing in the morning that after dinner I would take him to DQ for a treat. Well, that was before I knew that he would be getting not 1 but 2 cakes!!! Since the kid doesn’t forget a single thing, especially when it comes to ice cream, I kept my promise. So after cake we headed for ice cream. The sugar intake was way too much yesterday!

Owen got this coupon to Dairy Queen for a free Ice Cream Cone as a Birthday present from his pre-school. He was so excited to go use it!

Owen has been really good with his sister lately. Here he is sharing some of his special bday ice cream with his sister without being asked to. Such a sweet boy!

I have so much emotion with my son turning 4 and lots I’d like to say and reflect upon over the past four years of raising this child, but I am going to save that for a special post after his party. But for now I got this very cute idea from Pinterest. You print off this Interview Sheet and Interview your child each year on their Birthday to see how their answers change from year to year. Cute idea right? So of course I wanted to give it a shot so here is my Interview with Owen yesterday! These are exact word for word answers that Owen gave me, I did not change a thing.

Fishing Trip

This past Sunday, the kids and I were invited to go on a fishing trip with Nana, Pampo, Auntie Kiki and Abigail. We woke up went to church, came home, ate an early lunch, and took early naps. Once the kiddos woke up from their naps we packed up and headed out for an afternoon of fishing fun. My parents are avid fishers so they were so excited to have all 3 grandkids come along. My sister and I were never big on fishing growing up so I think they are hoping the grandkids will love it so they are starting them young. We went about 30 miles Northwest to Zia Pueblo lake. We chose that lake because it is a very short drive, small, very quiet and you are almost guaranteed to catch fish. The kids had a BLAST! It was a beautiful day, not too hot and not too cold. Autumn and Abigail mainly waked around splashing in the water, eating snacks and throwing rocks in the lake. Owen fished the entire 3+ hours we were there. He is quite the little caster. Since he was having so much fun casting his rod and reeling it in we never ended up putting a hook on his line. He was so content doing what he was doing so why bother. He got to reel in a few small trout and bass fish on Nana & Pampo’s lines but for the most part he would much rather cast and reel over and over. It was a super super fun day spent with the family, if Daddy was there it would have made the day perfectly complete. Of course since I wasn’t fishing I took way too many pictures so I hope you enjoy and don’t get bored. If you don’t already know, I have an obsession with pictures. I love looking back on fun times.

When my parents fish at this lake they catch and release since the fish are so small. Its perfect because the fish almost always swallow the hook so they just cut the line and throw them back so they don’t end up killing them. Win win situation. They catch fish but the fish still get to live. Anyway my dad put one of the fish my mom caught in this tub and let the girls play around with it. They thought it was so Cool and were not scared of it one bit. Owen on the other hand was terrified and WOULD NOT touch it. Haha.

Caught another one!

See what I mean. Owen would jump back like 100 feet if anyone was holding a fish. Animals terrify him. So funny!

*********************

That same night after fishing was the Solar Eclipse. There hasn’t been one since 1994 so we tried our best to run out and snap a few pictures before it was over. We were totally unprepared and didn’t have the special glasses or anything but we tried our hardest to make the best of it. Albuquerque was supposed to be the best place to watch it so we knew we had to get at least one picture to look back on since the next one wont happen for another 11 years. For those who don’t know, a Solar Eclipse is when the moon is directly in front of the sun but not big enough to cover it so you can see the sun shinning out behind it. I think we were too early or too late, not sure which one, but here is what we got. Enjoy…
